INTRODUCTION General Studies Department (GSD) has officially operated in Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin main campus on the 8th October 2001. General Studies Department was initially led by only 1 lecturer but now it has increased to 35 lecturers (20 Islamic education/ morale/ Islamic civilization lecturers and 15 English lecturers). General Studies Department has begun its operation in a 2 level building, between Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering Departments. The upper level places the department’s administration division and the lower level consists of 3 language/ multimedia labs that can accommodate 40 students at one time. All the infrastructures and facilities that are available in this department will enable General Studies Department staff to excel continuously and to succeed in fulfilling polytechnic ambition in realizing the mission to be the most prestigious educational centre. VISION General Studies Department determines to be the most outstanding department and to produce outstanding, good ethics, competent and responsible graduates by the year 2012. MISSION General studies department is committed to prepare high quality, good ethics, outstanding with high language ability graduates through strategic management and the best administration based on the continuous guaranteed quality.
